Scott Monroe was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At the age of ten he began playing the saxophone in middle school band. In high school, he began singing. He became Christian at the age of 16, while attending a United Methodist Church, and was soon called into the ministry as a musician. After a life-changing encounter with the Holy Spirit in 1985, his music and focus changed. He began to see music as a powerful means of ministry, praise and worship and not only a means of entertainment. Under pressure from teachers and peers, he chose to major in Music Education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he was student conductor for marching, concert, pep, and jazz bands for nearly 7 years. Midway through his college experience, burn-out set in and he began to rebel against the very standards that he had built his life upon. After a time struggling with alcohol and other distractions, he reached a place of desperation and called out to the Lord to restore him. Soon, his vision for ministry was renewed and God began the long process of reconciliation in Scottıs life. It was during this time that he met Cindy Jewell(now his wife) and was soon called to be minister of music at a small Baptist church in North Georgia. During his year and a half of ministry there, God was slowly restoring the vision that Scott had chosen to leave behind years before. Suddenly, in December of 1992, he was called to serve on staff at Central Baptist Church of Hixson, in Chattanooga, as Music Associate where he lead the instrumental and youth music ministries. Two years later, he went through a month of deep spiritual struggle in which God was preparing him to take a major step of faith. In the fall of 1995, God commanded Scott to step down from his full-time position at Central and begin what is now Scott Monroe Ministries, Inc.
Over the last 4 years, Scott has traveled all over the United States playing in churches and leading worship for all ages in all denominations. In 1998, SMM began an ongoing ministry to Mexico. He has been extensively involved in Inner City ministry and will soon begin to travel overseas to minister as well. He has ministered regularly in youth camps and retreats, vacation bible schools, singles events, revivals, senior adult meetings, community outreach efforts, concerts and many other special events. His music transcends all barriers of race, age, economics and denomination. He has seen countless believers move into a deeper place of worship in their lives. He has ministered to thousands of lost people in a way that not many others can. Lives truly are being changed in a unique way by the ministry of Scott Monroe. Scott has released three recordings; The Praise Band Project, The Truth Will Set You, Free, and his newest, The Advent:An Intimate Worship Experience for Christmas. He is currently working on material for a brand new praise and worship recording for release later this year. In addition to his own recordings, he has produced and recorded with many other artists such as Phil Driscoll, President Bill Clintonıs brother, Roger Clinton, Fred Guilbert, Angie McGregor, Scott Brown and Salt, just to name a few. He has also played with Jerome Olds, Buddy Greene, Nancy Harmon, Larry Goss, Dave Boyer, James Ward, Russell Thompson, The Four Tops, Ringling Brothers Circus and countless other artists and groups in his 15 years as a professional musician. Scott lives in Soddy Daisy, TN, a suburb of Chattanooga, with his wife Cindy and 2 year old daughter, Alyx.
